Good afternoon! The readings for this coming Sunday are: Psalm 50:1-15; Isaiah 66:18-23; Hebrews 12:4-24; Luke 13:22-30. The reading from Hebrews reminded me of what has to be my least favorite job as a parent- discipline. Among other un-pleasantries, laying down the law at home likely means hearing accusations from the child you love that “you just don’t understand!” or “why are you being so MEAN to me!”. As parents we may console ourselves with the thought that someday, someday, they’ll appreciate this. It is both helpful and incredibly humbling to think about our own relationship with God in the same light. Do we accept that God sometimes says no to our requests, or do we silently blame Him for not caring or understanding? Life under God’s direction will not be pain-free. His goal is not to keep you comfortable. It is to cause you to “yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness” and the “holiness without which no one will see the Lord”. Like our own children we may not be able appreciate it now, but someday soon enough, we will. God be with you this week!
