I just wanted to publish some more information about the Servant Leadership Retreat coming up in only a couple of weeks and to encourage you and your students to RSVP as soon as possible!
Here’s the rundown:
Servant Leadership Retreat @ Camp Luther
August 18-20, 2017 // For students entering grades 9-12
$20 per student // (Low cost per-student was made possible by a Thrivent Action Team)
Depart Utica Friday, approx 6:30pm (stop in Columbus for supper)
Return Utica Sunday, approx. 4pm
Our topic for the weekend has changed a little as it’s come together, but I think for the better:
Leadership Lessons from the Prodigal Sons
Prodigal sons? Plural? Yup. This well-known parable of Jesus isn’t really as well known as we’d think. Both sons waste the love of the generous father, the father’s grace is equally available to both, and it’s equally necessary to both. Whether through recklessness or self-righteousness, both sons have made the same mistake: they’ve abandoned the father’s love for something else.
We will dig deep into the parable and discover some things we may have missed, discuss what we can learn about our world and ourselves from Jesus’ teaching, and see what the lives of the brothers and the goodness of the father might mean for us both individually and communally.
Please RSVP as soon as possible, and let me know if you have any questions.
