Readings for the Sixth Sunday of Easter

John 15:9-17; 1 John 5:1-8; Acts 10:34-48; Psalm 98

Can you think of a time when you were befriended by someone bigger or better known than yourself? Jesus has welcomed us into the close fellowship that he shares with the Heavenly Father. We get to experience his love and his joy as our very own. He calls us his friends (John 15).

Then, like Jesus himself, we show love to God in return by doing whatever He asks, especially by putting the needs of others first (1 John 5). To love God is to share in His revealed will and purpose, for ourselves and for others. This includes the work of reconciliation and peace-making which began with Jesus (Acts 10).
