Readings for the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany
John 1:43-51; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20; 1 Samuel 3:1-10
This is the Epiphany season of the church year – when we hear about the many ways God has revealed Himself through the ages and, most vividly, in the person of Jesus.
Samuel was just a boy, young and inexperienced, when the LORD called him to an important (and difficult!) assignment. But the LORD saw in him a willing heart, and that was enough to work with. “Speak, LORD, for your servant hears!” (1 Sam 3)
In similar fashion, Jesus saw Nathanael -and saw through his skepticism- long before Nathanael ever got the invitation from Philip to “come and see”. (Jn 1)
So the LORD also sees you and me as we are – warts and all! And He has work to get done through us, too. He doesn’t need perfection, just a willing heart.
